昨日は、恋人の日ともいわれるバレンタインデーでした
バレンタインデーの時期になると店頭に多くの種類のチョコが並びます
それをプレゼントする人もいれば手作りのお菓子を渡す人もいます

日本ではバレンタインデーに、
女性から男性にチョコレートを渡す習慣があります
もともと、女性が好きな男性に愛の告白とともに
チョコを渡していたバレンタインデーですが、
最近では必ずしも告白のためにチョコを渡すのではなく、
男友達に渡す『義理チョコ』や、
仲のいい友達に渡す『友チョコ』など、
バレンタインデーの風習もだんだんと変わってきています

チョコだけではなく日常的に使うことのできるものを
プレゼントする人も増えていて、
バレンタインデーといえばチョコレートのイメージが
少しずつ変わってきているような気がしますね

好きな人に渡すチョコは『本命チョコ』といい、
名前からして本気なのだということが伝わってきます
若い学生の中には、好きな人に本命チョコを渡すのが恥ずかしくて
あくまでも義理チョコだということを強調して、
チョコを渡していた学生もいるようですよ

みなさんもチョコを言い訳にして、好きな人に気持ちを伝えてみてください
もちろん、友達や家族に日ごろの感謝の気持ちをこめて
チョコを渡す良い機会にもなりますね！

Valentine’s Day

Yesterday was Valentine’s Day, also known as Lover’s Day.
During Valentine’s Day, many kinds of chocolates are sold in shops.
Some people give them as gifts, while others hand out homemade sweets.


In Japan, it is customary for women to give chocolate to men on Valentine’s Day.
Originally, women gave chocolates to the men they liked as a confession of love, but recently the custom has gradually changed to include “giri-choco” (obligatory chocolate), which is given to male friends, and “tomo-choco” (friend chocolates), which is given to close friends, rather than necessarily as a confession of love.


More and more people are giving gifts that can be used on a daily basis in addition to chocolate, and it seems that the image of chocolate on Valentine’s Day is gradually changing.


The chocolate you give to the person you like is called “honmei choko”, and it means that you are serious about it.
Some young students are embarrassed to give a “honmei choko” to the person they like, so they give it to him, emphasising that it is only a “giri-choco”.


You can use chocolate as an excuse to express your feelings to the person you love.
Of course, it’s also a good opportunity to give chocolates to your friends and family to express your gratitude!
