日本では、引越しをすると近所に住む人へ挨拶と手土産を渡す習慣があることを知っていますか？
引越しをしたら挨拶をする「向こう三軒両隣にあいさつ回り」
という言葉があります
隣・向かい・斜め向かいへ引っ越してきた挨拶と贈り物をするというものです
マンションやアパートの場合、上下左右の部屋が対象になります

ちなみに手土産の中身はタオルやお菓子、洗剤等が多いです
古くから使われている贈り物は、蕎麦！
なぜ蕎麦なのか分かりますか？
「そば」に引っ越してきたことにかけた言葉遊びで、「おそばに末長く」
「蕎麦のように、細く長いおつきあいを」という気持ちが込められているんですよ

昔はほとんどの日本人が引越しの挨拶をしていましたが、
今は約半数の人しかしない習慣なので、
日本に住んだら必ずしなければいけないというものではありません

日本で隣に住む人から急に手土産をもらって驚く留学生が居ますが
もし、自分が住んでいる家の隣人から急に引越しの挨拶をされて、
手土産をもらったら日本の文化だと思ってくださいね

Japanese move customs

Do you know that there is a custom in Japan to give greetings and gifts to people who live in the neighborhood when you move?
There is a phrase, “I will say hello to the next three houses on both sides.”
It is to say hello and give a gift to people who have moved to the next, opposite, or diagonally opposite.
In the case of a condominium or an apartment, it covers the rooms on the above, below, left, and right.

By the way, towels, snacks and detergents are often chosen for the souvenirs.
The gift that has been used for a long time is soba!
Do you know why?
It is a play on words about the fact that you have moved to “soba”.
Moving to “soba” means moving to be by your side.
It expresses the feelings of “being by your side for a long time” and “having a long relationship like soba”.

In the past, most Japanese people used to say hello when they moved, but now only about half of the Japanese people do so, so it’s not something that you have to do if you live in Japan.

In Japan, there are study abroad students who are surprised to receive a gift from their neighbors.
But if your neighbors suddenly greet you with a move and receive a gift, please think that it is a part of Japanese culture.
