Creating Memories While Learning Teamwork: School Field Trip

On an early morning in late February, as the cold winter gave way to the warmth of spring, TLS students gathered in anticipation. Buzzing with excitement, the students boarded their buses bound for a park in Nikko Edomura: Edo Wonderland.

The purpose of this school trip was not only to create memories at TLS but also to learn the importance of punctuality in group settings. Unlike private trips, the destination, transportation, and timeframe were all predetermined, thus, students were encouraged to enjoy the trip while also being courteous to their friends and classmates.

When the buses finally arrived, the students found themselves in a place that felt like it was frozen in Japan’s Edo period. All around were ninjas, samurais, food stalls, and even an Oiran procession!


Whether participating in swordsmanship training at the samurai residence or watching a performance in the magistrate’s office, the students found numerous opportunities to learn about Japanese history and practice the Japanese they had learned in class.

Both on the way there and back, everyone acted punctually, achieving both objectives of the school trip successfully! It was a day filled with fun memories and valuable lessons.


春の陽気に包まれた2月下旬、修学旅行に出かけました。
行き先は【EDO WONDERLAND 日光江戸村】。
朝早い集合時間にもかかわらず、留学生たちは出発が待ちきれない様子で元気に集合！クラスごとにバスに乗り込み、いよいよ出発です。

この修学旅行では、TLSでの思い出作りだけでなく、「時間を守り、集団行動を学ぶこと」 も大切な目的のひとつでした。
プライベートの旅行とは異なり、行き先や移動手段、バスのメンバー、遊ぶ時間などが決められた中で、「集団行動の大切さを学びつつ、旅行を楽しむこと」を意識してもらいました。


バスに揺られながら目的地へ、到着した先は――まるでタイムスリップしたかのような江戸時代！
侍や忍者、町娘の姿があふれ、屋台からは美味しそうな香りが漂います。

武家屋敷での剣術訓練や、奉行所での寸劇鑑賞では、普段教室で学んでいる日本語を実際に使う絶好のチャンス！学生たちは、習った日本語を駆使しながら、存分に体験を楽しんでいました。


そして、行きも帰りも全員が時間をしっかり守って行動し、修学旅行の2つの目的はどちらも無事に達成！楽しい思い出とともに、大切な学びも得られた一日となりました。
