The coldest day of the year

The coldest day of the year

In January, the temperature is getting lower and it becomes colder. Are you all doing well?

In Japan, the coldest period of the year, known as “Daikan”, starts around 20th of January.
In Tokyo, it doesn’t usually snow that much, but in areas where there is a lot of snow, there can be a problem with the sudden increase in snowfall.

After the coldest time of the year, as in the Japanese four-character phrase “sankan shikan”, there are three days of cold followed by four days of warmth, and even though it is cold, you can feel a little hint of spring.
With the end of the coldest season, butterbur sprouts gradually begin to appear, which is the first step towards the arrival of spring.

Some of you may not have seen snow yet.
In Japan, there are areas where it snows and areas where it doesn’t.
One way to enjoy Japan is to see the snowy landscapes before the end of the cold weather and the arrival of spring.
