Trash disposal rules in Japan

Trash disposal rules in Japan

Trash disposal rules are difficult in Japan, where there is little trash and trash cans in the streets.
Many international students say that they had a hard time remembering the rules for garbage disposal when they started living in Japan.
Even Japanese people sometimes make mistakes or forget the rules.

The rules change depending on the area, but basically there are different days of the week for disposing of bottles, cans, plastic bottles, burnable garbage, and recyclable garbage.
Also, garbage larger than 30cm is called oversize garbage, which requires an appointment and money to dispose.
The time and method of putting out the trash also depends on where you live, so be careful!

At the TLS dormitory, the rules for garbage disposal are explained in an easy way when you enter the dormitory, so don’t worry.
Even if you can’t remember the rules on the spot, there is an instruction manual with pictures in the dormitory room.
If you can’t remember the rules on the spot, you can always check the manual with pictures in your room.

Japanese rules are designed to reduce the amount of garbage as much as possible.
Please check them carefully when you start living in Japan.
