雨が降っている日に出かけて、お店やレストランなど建物に入るとき、みなさんがもっている傘、どうしていますか。

これは「傘ぽん」といって、濡れた傘を簡単にビニール製の袋に入れられるものです。

このような習慣はあまり海外にはないみたいで、日本に来たばかりの留学生が、これはなんだと、不思議そうに見ている姿を見たりします。

使い方はとても簡単！傘をとめたら、傘ぽんの穴に入れます。最後に傘を引っ張るだけで、手が濡れることもほとんどありません。

傘の雨のしずくで濡れてしまう床や通路をきれいに、そして、歩行者が滑ることがないようにという配慮から生まれたこの傘ぽん、実は少しずつ世界でも活躍しているそうです。

Wet Umbrella Wrapper

When you go out on a rainy day and enter a shop, restaurant or other building, what do you do with your umbrella?

In Japanese this is called a “Kasa-pon”, which means “wet umbrella wrapper”, that allows you to easily put a wet umbrella into a plastic bag.

“Kasa-pon” is not common in other countries, and many international students, who have just arrived in Japan, wondering what this is.

It is very easy to use! Just put wet umbrella straight down into the slot. Then umbrella is wrapped in plastic bag.
And finally, pull out umbrella toward front slowly.
Here you go! You will not get wet at all.

The idea behind the “Kasa-pon” was to keep floors and walkways clean and to prevent pedestrians from slipping. In fact, the “Kasa-pon” is now gradually being used around the world.
