Experience communication beyond the classroom at the ‘Sports Day’!

Toyo Language School held a Sports Day on October 25th! The event was held at “Spears Edoriku Field,” which is a 15-minute walk from Toyo Language School. This is a full-scale athletic stadium with stands that can accommodate around 7,000 spectators, and is used to host various sports competitions.

Although it was drizzling on the morning of the event, the rain stopped and we were able to hold the event.
The theme of this Sports Day was “+1 Communication.” The goal was to step out of the classroom and engage in different kinds of communication with a variety of people in this large athletic stadium. After warming up with “Radio Calisthenics,” a familiar part of Japanese culture, we held three events: The “Human Scavenger Hunt,” “Tug of War,” and “Relay Race.”


In the “Human Scavenger Hunt,” students were given a short phrase and tasked with locating a student that matched the phrase. In the “Tug of War,” students who had met for the first time that day formed teams, huddled up and strategized together. The “Relay Race” saw both intense teamwork and cheering battles. Each of these events was an opportunity for communication and cooperation amongst students from a variety of backgrounds.

Behind the scenes of these events, the student staff played a crucial role – holding meetings for two months in preparation for this day. Their dedication, incredible teamwork and hospitality made the Sports Day a huge success!


All over the field, Students could be heard cheering for their classmates and saying things like “I want to have sports day every day!” Despite the gloomy weather, the enthusiasm and energy in the stadium that day was truly inspiring.

10月25日に運動会を行いました！
会場は、東洋言語学院から歩いて15分のところにある「スピアーズえどりくフィールド 」。
約7,000人が観覧できるスタンドを備えていて、色々なスポーツの大会が行われる本格的な陸上競技場です。


当日の朝まで小雨が降っていましたが、学生たちの日ごろの行いのおかげで、開始時間には雨も上がり、無事に開催することができました。

今回の運動会のテーマは、「+１（プラスワン）コミュニケーション」。
教室を飛び出して、この広い陸上競技場で、いつものクラスメイトとは違うメンバーと、いつもとは違うコミュニケーションをしようというのが目標です。
日本人にお馴染みの「ラジオ体操」で日本の文化を体験しながらウォーミングアップをした後、「人探し競争」「綱引き」「リレー」の3つの競技を行いました。


「人探し競争」、お題に当てはまる学生を探してゴールを目指す競技！協力プレーがたくさん生まれました。
「綱引き」では、その日初めて会った学生たちがチームになって円陣を組んだり作戦会議をしたり…。
「リレー」、本気のチームワークと応援合戦が繰り広げられました。


そして、そんな競技の裏側で大活躍してくれたのが学生スタッフのみんな。
この日のために2か月前からミーティングを重ね、ものすごいチームワークとホスピタリティで運動会を最高に盛り上げてくれました！

「この勝負、絶対勝とう！」「運動会毎日やりたい！」そんな声があちこちから上がった運動会。
天気はどんよりでしたが、何でも真剣に全力で楽しむ東洋言語学院の学生たちの姿はとてもまぶしかったです。
