The School’s Education System
“Discover on your own, think on your own, communicate on your own” Japanese Language Education
Since its founding in 1988, Toyo Language School has upheld the mission of contributing broadly to the international society through language education. We accept students who have a clear career plan and the motivation to learn toward its realization, and we implement an educational program that incorporates career education (human education) to nurture them into individuals who are recognized by society. With the motto of fostering individuals overflowing with independence, and under the educational philosophy of “students discovering on their own, thinking on their own, and communicating on their own,” we provide Japanese language education (practical education) that respects the future and purpose of each and every student, and through this, we send out into the global society excellent individuals equipped with the ability to “understand others and connect with others” (international education).
Goals of the Japanese Language Education Program
We carefully provide opportunities to each diverse student, regardless of differences in values or background, to engage in learning that involves “thinking for oneself and taking initiative in discovering and solving problems,” as well as “deep and rich learning experiences that are born from connections with people and society.” Furthermore, by actively utilizing ICT, we design and implement individually optimized Japanese language education programs tailored to the learner’s needs, progress, and interests, and we concretely and steadily support the realization of each student’s future goals and career plans.
Course Overview
Competency
Class assignments focus on real-life situations encountered in daily life and school interactions within Japan, fostering the ability to respond flexibly through both language and actions. The class adopts blended tutorial and practical approach as “problem-solving learning.” By combining the five language activities – “reading,” “listening,” “writing,” “presenting,” and “interacting” – students develop the ability to solve problems in simulated real-world situations. By accumulating systematic learning, students will develop the ability to think, judge, and act independently.
Career Path
With an eye toward future career choices, such as further education or employment, students develop the ability to clearly express their intentions and foster mutual understanding with others. Classes build on receptive abilities (listening and reading) while integrating three activities – “presentation,” “interaction,” and “writing” – to enhance the language proficiency necessary for career planning. Furthermore, starting from the B1 level, students are placed into different career paths, and while working on practical tasks to achieve their goals while also gaining relevant information and knowledge about their chosen path, cultivating the language skills necessary for further education or employment.
